Since Sulphur and Hydrogen Sulfide are very corrosive and destroy equipment so it is important to know this value in natural gas, NGL, LPG, … and it can prevent corrosion in process plants.
Measuring method is based on ASTM D4048 which it is known Lead Acetate Reaction Rate
Hydrogen Sulfide react with acetate smeared on surface of a tape as below:
H2S+ Pb(CH3COO)2 PbS+2CH3COOH
Then a LED shine a beam of red light on surface of tape and it can find out concentration of H2S based on darkness of tape.
Moreover to measure amount of total Sulphur, it converts TS to H2S based on following reaction then measure H2S
R-S+ H2 + heat R-H+ H2S
